As House Republicans push to avoid another government shutdown, Democrats are expected to reject any proposal.
From politico.com: House Republicans are forging ahead with a vote to prevent another government shutdown, despite knowing the Senate is likely to reject their opening salvo and with uncertainty of the end game.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer met privately on Tuesday morning to discuss adding a massive budget deal to any government funding package when it comes over to the Senate, according to sources in both parties briefed on the talks. The top four congressional leaders believe they are close to clinching a budget deal to boost defense and domestic spending.
With progress being made in the Senate on an agreement to raise stiff budget caps, the House plans to vote Tuesday night on a bill that would boost Pentagon spending over the next eight months while funding non-defense programs at current levels — and then only until March 23.
