The Scandal of Vince McMahon(WWE)

Vince McMahon bought the, then WWF, from his father in 1982 and successfully took the regional company to national and then worldwide success. He is responsible for some of the greatest characters in wrestling history. He brought us Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series, just to name a few. He gave us new and innovative matches. But on June 17th 2022, Vince McMahon stepped down as Chairman and CEO of WWE following rumors of a hush fund that was used to payout various women Vince McMahon may have had relationships with.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Vince McMahon has paid 4 women $12 million dollars after either a consensual sexual relationship or for un-wanted advances. The WWE Board of Directors began an investigation and found other non-disclosure agreements for similar things, dating back to the late 1980’s. Vince then stepped away from his Chairman and CEO responsibilities. Then on July 22nd he officially announced his “retirement” from the WWE. It should be noted, he is still a shareholder.

“As I approach 77 years old, I feel it’s time for me to retire as chairman and CEO of WWE. Throughout the years, it’s been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you,” McMahon said in a statement. “I would like to thank my family for mightily contributing to our success, and I would also like to thank all of our past and present superstars and employees for their dedication and passion for our brand. Most importantly, I would like to thank our fans for allowing us into your homes every week and being your choice of entertainment. I hold the deepest appreciation and admiration for our generations of fans all over the world who have liked, currently like, and sometimes even love our form of Sports Entertainment.

After he initially stepped away in June, Stephanie McMahon and Nick Kahn(Not related to the Tony Kahn family) assumed the roles of Co-CEO's. Paul Levesque, also knows as Triple H, was then named Executive Vice President and was put in charge of talent relations following John Laurinitas being named alongside Vince in the allegations. John Laurinitas is the brother of Joe Laurinitas who was Road Warrior Animal

The investigation into Vince McMahon and John Laurinitas is still on-going, and the story still developing. The only thing we know for certain is that Vince McMahon is no longer in charge of the WWE, at least in an official capacity. I will be writing more articles on the WWE and the situation with Vince McMahon in the coming weeks.
